Do you have to be a genius to work out that we are slaves to it? Whether consciously or through necessity we have no choice other than to amass as much as we can to protect ourselves from the world of men, and the world of nature, and our own self-regard. And yet when we have it vultures circle around all the while waiting for an opportunity to steal it away.
Some will tell you they don't care for money, these people can tell you this because no doubt they are immune in some way from the pitfalls of its absence, either supported by people with money, or supported in some privileged way by the state, or they are prepared, mentality, to suffer the hardships of poverty from a matter of principle. It would not be fair for you to have to share this view. If you are afraid of poverty then the only way you might endure it, should it arrive, could be to retreat into some fantasy world where the need for an income was not present.
If you prefer a career over the amassing of wealth be prepared to be buffeted all along your way by those who would like to take advantage of your 'calling' by reducing your income to increase their profit. This will happen and it will upset you.
